Michelle Heaton

MHI can’t work out if I’m annoyed with her or if I actually rate her.   It’s a super thin line and she keeps dancing on it flashing her brand new boobs everywhere…

I’m joking.   YES she found out she is a BRCA2 carrier and YES she had a mastectomy and we KNOW that it can be traumatic and scary and stressful and worrying, especially when you first find out that it is hereditary, and especially when you have the additional worry that you may have passed it on to your daughter, as in her case.  That’s going to be extremely tough for anyone.

What frustrates me so much is that she is NOT ILL and where the messages that she has been giving out are not detailed enough, people don’t actually know the facts and therefore haven’t understood if she is ill or not.  There are youtube videos of some of her interviews and some people are commenting underneath things like  ”i hope she makes it”…..huh???

She has been so public with everything from day one and I think she fails to see the importance of the message that she is conveying via the press.  Every single thing she says is important because people are actually listening and I have to wonder to myself if she realises how vital this airtime is.   This girl has a huge platform in terms of TV viewership (millions) and yet I am still waiting to see an interview where she doesn’t solely focus on herself but actually spends a few minutes giving the general public some more useful, factual, detailed information (esp coming directly from a carrier), explaining BRCA, what it is, who it can affect, how, why, some stats, etc etc.  That wouldn’t take long and is badly needed.

The gist of the subject is usually covered, but it’s then pretty much instantly focused on her and how she feels and is she ok etc etc etc, and then she cries a bit more and finishes off her interview and so on and so on.

Whatever the reason is for her doing the interviews and articles is none of my business but it definitely doesn’t seem to be to educate or raise awareness.

Again, this is my opinion, she is very well liked I think and alot of people DO feel sorry for her and I personally can empathise with her 100%.   I guess my point is that she is in an amazing position where she could have a huge impact on alot of people and I wish she would take advantage of it and be more positive, more informative and more conscious in her interviews.

And stop crying.

Really interesting hearing that from your perspective when all we have seen is the interviews and obviously felt massively for you. I completely understand what you are saying and I agree – I have not seen a single statistical round up or display of BRCA and what it actually means. It’s always been a personal story for Michelle.
